People suffering from toenail fungus might be one step closer to a cure, thanks to Nomir Medical Technologies‘ new direct optical energy device.
The company’s Noveon system, which uses infrared technology to wipe out bacteria and fungal infections, showed in recent trials that 74 percent of the 32 subjects with onychomycosis, or toenails infected by fungus, had significantly less fungus after two treatments.
According to Nomir founder and chief scientific officer Eric Bornstein, the data (PDF) was based on 120 days of follow-up on patients who received four treatments over a four-month period.
