Tengion CEO Nichtberger resigns | MassDevice.com Personnel Moves

August 16, 2011 By MassDevice staff

Tengion

Tengion Inc. (NSDQ:TNGN) chief scientific officer Timothy Bertram will handle CEO duties while the company searches for a new top executive following the June 30 resignation of Dr. Steven Nichtberger.

No reason was given for the resignation. The East Norriton, Pa.-based regenerative medicine company said Nichtberger’s departure "is not the result of a disagreement with the company" in securities filings. A search for a replacement is under way, chairman David Scheer said in prepared remarks.

Bertram, also Tengion’s executive vice president of science & technology and leader of its research & development operation, is a veteran of Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) and SmithKline Beecham, according to a filing with the federal Securities & Exchange Commission.

In a separate release, Tengion said it named Dr. Diane Jorkasky, a senior vice president at Endo Pharmaceuticals (NSDQ:ENDP), to its board of directors. Brenda Gavin, a managing partner at Quaker BioVentures, is stepping down from the board after five years, according to the release.

In April, Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT) revealed a 17 percent stake and a right of first refusal to purchase other Tengion technology.
