Teleflex makes medical devices for critical care and surgical applications. Founded in 1943 to commercialize a multi-strand helical cable and a gear that could convert push-pull motions into rotary motions, the company now concentrates on the manufacture of medical devices used in critical care and surgery. Last year the company sold off the last of its non-medical-device businesses (cargo handling and marine steering and throttle control products), making it a pure-play medical device firm with products in vascular access, anesthesia, surgical, respiratory, urology, cardiac assist and more. In June 2013 Teleflex acquired Eon Surgical as well as the assets of Ultimate Medical.
