CAZ Investments raises $29M fund | Wall Street Beat

CAZ Investments raised a nearly $29 million funding round it plans to use to back medical companies that already have products on the market.

The Houston-based asset management firm reeled in $28.7 million from 61 unnamed investors, according to a regulatory filing.

CAZ Investments chairman Christopher Zook said the firm plans to use the cash to invest in commercialized companies.

St. Jude wins EU approval for ViewFlex Xtra ICE catheter

St. Jude Medical's ViewFlex Xtra ICE catheter

Medical device maker St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) won CE Mark approval in the European Union for its ViewFlex Xtra intracardiac echocardiography catheter for use with the device giant’s ViewMate Z ultrasound console.

The upgraded system offers one-handed use, an ergonomic handle and 4-way tip deflection, according to a press release.

Ex-Stryker CEO MacMillan earned $9.5M in 2011 | Personnel Moves

Stryker’s (NYSE:SYK) former CEO, Stephen MacMillan, walked away from a pay package worth more than $9.5 million last year, SEC filings show.

MacMillan’s pay included more than $1.3 million in salary, $3.6 million in stock awards and $3.1 million in option awards in 2011, doubling the $4.7 million he received in 2010.

Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) COO Samuel Leno announced his retirement as executive VP and chief operating officer after three years with med-tech giant.

Leno made the announcement internally on Friday, Oct. 28, according to documents filed with the SEC.

Leno joined Boston Scientific in June 2007 as executive VP of finance and information systems and CFO. In March 2010, he was appointed executive VP and COO.

St. Jude and Zonare combine for new cardiac ultrasound system

Two months after it announced a development agreement with an ultrasound technology company, St. Jude Medical Inc. (NYSE:STJ) has launched a faster, more portable intracardiac ultrasound system designed for taking images inside the heart.

The company’s new ViewMate Z combines its intracardiac echocardiography catheter with Mountain View, Calif.-based Zonare Medical Systems Inc.’s "z.one" convertible ultrasound system.
