Zoll Medical CFO set to sell stock

March 16, 2010 By MassDevice staff Leave a Comment

Ernie Whiton is not a person who lets stock options lay around without getting some exercise.

The CFO at Zoll Medical Corp. (NSDQ:ZOLL) is preparing to sell off another large slice of his company stock, disclosing plans this week to offer up to 90,000 shares through a series of pre-arranged sales beginning next month.

Whiton joined the Chelmsford, Mass.-based maker of defibrillators in January 1999, following a six-year stint at Ionics Inc. (now part of General Electric) in Watertown, Mass. He earns $280,000 in annual salary and holds a total of 107,750 vested options to buy Zoll stock priced between $11.26 and $23.05 a share, awarded through Zoll’s long-term equity incentive compensation plan.

Zoll’s Q1 profits slip 20% despite increased sales of $105 million

January 28, 2010 By MassDevice staff Leave a Comment

Zoll Medical Corp. (NSDQ:ZOLL) posted a 20.2 percent decline in net income during the first quarter, despite logging a 17.6 percent sales increase, hampered by still-slow capital spending.

The Chelmsford, Mass.-based resuscitation device maker reported net income of $2.3 million, or 11 cents per share, for the three months ended Jan. 3, compared with $2.9 million, or 14 cents per share, during Q1 2009. That’s despite sales of $105.2 million, compared with $89.5 million during the first quarter last year. The company had orders worth about $17 million in its pipeline at the end of the most recent quarter, more than double the amount it had at the end of Q1 2009.

U.S. Senate hopeful Scott Brown: “I can stop the bill” on healthcare reform

January 13, 2010 By MassDevice staff Leave a Comment

U.S. Senate hopeful Scott Brown is no fan of the medical device tax — or the entire healthcare reform bill, for that matter.

On a campaign stop at Chelmsford, Mass.-based resuscitation device maker Zoll Medical Corp. (NSDQ:ZOLL), Brown promised he’d do all he could to kill the proposed 10-year, $20 billion levy on medical device makers contained in the Senate’s healthcare reform package.
