VCs press Senate on “IPO On Ramp” bill | Wall Street Beat

The National Venture Capital Assn. is spearheading a drive to get a bill through the U.S. Senate that would make it easier for small companies to raise money by going public.

The "IPO On Ramp" measure would ease the regulatory requirements for IPOs and temporarily reduce the reporting burdens imposed by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Welch Allyn CEO Julie Shimer to retire | Personnel Moves

Welch Allyn president & CEO Julie Shimer announced plans to retire from the Skaneateles Falls, N.Y.-based diagnostics maker by the end of 2012.

Shimer became the first woman to hold the corner office at the 95-year old company when she took the position in 2007 after 5 years on the med-tech maker’s board of directors.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Sister companies Raytel Cardiac Services Inc. and Philips Remote Cardiac Services plan to cut 85 jobs from a cardiac monitoring unit in Windsor, Conn.

The companies plan to cut work related to cardiac monitoring of pacemakers, but will keep 200 employees primarily focused on monitoring irregular heartbeats.

NuVasive closes Impulse Monitoring deal | Acquisitions Roundup

NuVasive (NSDQ:NUVA) closed its $80 million pickup of Impulse Monitoring Inc. last week, according to a filing with the federal Securities & Exchange Commission.

The deal, which closed Oct. 7, saw IMI’s shareholders receive nearly $40.5 million in cash and more than 2.3 million shares of NuVasive common stock with an aggregate value of about $40.5 million (per NUVA’s Oct. 6 closing share price of $17.32).
