Varian Medical Systems Inc. (NYSE:VAR) and IMRIS Inc. (TSX:IM) inked a co-development deal to create a magnetic-resonance-guided radiation therapy system to treat cancer.
The deal calls for the integration of Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Imris’ MR imaging technology with Palo Alto, Calif.-based Varian’s TrueBeam radiosurgery device.
Varian Medical Systems Inc. (NYSE:VAR) opened an equipment training center in Mumbai, India.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based radiotherapy equipment developer established the center to educate medical physicists and technologists who use the company’s cancer treatment systems.
Varian equipped the facility with 16 workstations and a VERT training system from the radiotherapy training company VERTual Ltd. for treatment simulation.
Varian Medical Systems Inc. (NYSE:VAR) took out a loan with Bank of America N.A. (NYSE:BAC) to fund the buyback of $225 million worth of its common stock under an accelerated share repurchasing program, according to a Securities & Exchange Commission filing.

As it turns out, that was just the prelude to D’Silva stepping down from the board entirely to become division president of the Fremont, Calif.-based chemical analysis division of Bruker Daltonics.
Varian Medical Systems (NYSE:VAR) posted first-quarter sales of $540.9 million, up 6.3 percent compared with $508.7 million during the same period last year. Net earnings rose 14.5 percent to $78.8 million, compared with $68.8 million during Q1:
