Becton, Dickinson & Co. (NYSE:BDX) picked a new man for the corner office this week with the announcement that Vincent Florenza will join the board of directors and take the reins from current board chairman and CEO Edward Ludwig on October 1, 2011.
Richard Meelia, the outgoing CEO of Covidien plc (NYSE:COV), is re-joining the board of directors at Haemonetics Corp. (NYSE:HAE) two years after stepping down to focus on Covidien.
Meelia, who plans to retire from Covidien’s corner office July 1 (he’ll stay on as non-executive chairman for the Mansfield, Mass.-based medical products maker), served on Haemonetics’ board from 2005 through 2009.
ECI Biotech Inc. signed a licensing and manufacturing agreement with Systagenix Wound Management Inc.
Worcester, Mass.-based ECI Biotech makes protein-based, point-of-care bacterial sensors and will collaborate with Quincy, Mass.-based Systagenix to develop a diagnostic technology for treating chronic wounds.
The companies said the resulting product will enable early infection detection and cheaper care by reducing unnecessary blanket treatments.
