The FDA has approved Sonoma Orthopedic Products’ FibuLock Nail device for the repair of ankle fractures.
Sonoma said FibuLock is designed to be a less invasive and more comfortable alternative to traditional surgical plates, which are screwed directly onto the bone through a large incision. In comparison, FibuLock Nails are inserted through a small incision directly into the bone canal.
Sonoma Orthopedic Products added $12 million to its coffers, thanks to private equity shop First Analysis, saying it plans to use the proceeds to get its "flexible-to rigid" ankle implant on the U.S. market.
Edwards Lifesciences (NYSE:EW) said its finance chief, Thomas Abate, plans to retire later this year after a replacement is found.
The Irvine, Calif.-based medical device company said Abate, 60, will stay on as CFO while the search goes on. Edwards hired Peter Crist of Crist/Kolder Associates to assist in the quest, according to a press release.
