Smith & Nephew (NYSE:SNN) chalked up a $85 million win against Arthrex Inc. today, following a $4.7 million loss on Monday.
The jury in the U.S. District Court in Oregon found that Arthrex was guilty of patent infringement for the Naples, Fla.-based company’s SutureTak, PushLock and Bio-PushLock anchors used in shoulder repair.

"iPad helps us communicate with clinicians; it helps our stories come to life. The sales representative can pull up information quickly and use graphics to tell a story in a very memorable way," Medtronic Neuromodulation division drug delivery marketing director Linnea Burman said in prepared remarks that Apple Inc. (NSDQ:AAPL) published on its website.
Smith & Nephew sues former employees for trade secret theft
MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Smith & Nephew plc (NYSE:SNN) slapped nine former employees with a lawsuit accusing them of stealing trade secrets to start a competing company.
The British health product conglomerate’s Memphis-based orthopedics division fired the employees earlier this month after another employee blew the whistle. Now Smith & Nephew wants them to pony up $56 million in damages and to be barred from using anything they learned on the job at SNN.
BlackRock becomes Smith & Nephew’s largest investor
BlackRock Inc. (NYSE:BLK) increased stake in British orthopedic device maker Smith & Nephew plc (NYSE:SNN) by some 2 million shares, making it the company’s single largest investor.
BlackRock, which previously owned 42 million shares of SNN stock, acquired nearly 3 million additional shares, according to regulatory filings.
