Transcend lands $51 million for micro-stent technology | Funding Roundup

Transcend Medical Inc. closed a second tranche of its series B financing round, bringing its total take to $51 million.

The Menlo Park, Calif.-based company develops ophthalmic devices for minimally invasive glaucoma therapies, and plans to use the newly raised funds for development of additional infrastructure and resources for a U.S. study of its CyPass micro-stent technology, as well as for development of next-generation glaucoma therapies.

NeuroWave lands contract from Uncle Sam

NeuroWave Systems has received a U.S. Army contract to develop a closed-loop anesthesia system based on a brain-monitoring device the company produces.

The Cleveland Heights, Ohio-based company said its AutoTiva anesthesia system will control the administration and infusion rate of anesthetics and drugs for patients who are undergoing surgery or sedation.

Neurowave inks distribution deal with CareFusion for Europe

Medical device startup NeuroWave Systems Inc. has reached a deal in which CareFusion Corp. (NYSE:CFN) will distribute NeuroWave’s brain-activity monitoring system in Germany and Scandinavia.

It’s an important step for Cleveland Heights, Ohio-based NeuroWave, which in June received European regulatory clearance to begin selling its NeuroSense brain monitor for assessing anesthesia levels.

Medical device start-up NeuroWave Systems Inc. received CE Mark approval in the European Union for its first product, the NeuroSense anesthesia monitor.

The Cleveland Heights-based company has been developing its brain-monitoring device since 2003, when it licensed the technology from co-inventor and now NeuroWave president, Tatjana Zikov.
