Massachusetts lifescience groups launch medtech mentoring for veterans
The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center of Waltham and the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council of Boston joined forces to launch a mentoring program for veterans, designed to help returning members of the military return to civilian life.
The initiative, which is part of the Medical Technology Veterans Program unveiled at the AdvaMed 2012 medical device conference in Boston last month, will train up to 50 Massachusetts veterans to enter the medical technology workforce.

Device tax: Jobs, R&D likely sacrifices in the face of tax burden, survey shows
Massachusetts medical device executives forecast job losses and budget-cutting for research & development efforts, as the industry nears the launch date of a 2.3% medical device excise tax.
Half of the 42 senior executives surveyed in the Bay State said they would slash R&D budgets and 25% said they would cut jobs at home and outsource manufacturing to lower-cost areas.
Social media survey: More medical device companies adopt social media policies
A new survey shows that the use of social networking hubs like Twitter, Linkedin and Facebook by medical device companies appears to be on the uptick, at least in Massachusetts.
Co-sponsored by Schwartz Communications and the Mass. Medical Device Industry Council, the 15-question survey of about 70 representatives of the medical device industry in the Bay State looked at how med-tech players use the tools to engage customers and prospects.
