Becton Dickinson lands clearance for 10-minute flu test | Regulatory Roundup

Becton Dickinson & Co. (NYSE:BDX) won FDA 510(k) clearance for its BD Veritor 10-minute diagnostic test for influenza A and B last month, amid rumors that the Franklin Lakes, N.J.-based company is ripe for buyout.

Veritor is the first rapid flu test with a digital readout, while older tests are slower, less accurate and more difficult to interpret, according to BD.

FDA approves AtriCure’s Synergy cardiac ablation device | Regulatory Roundup

AtriCure

AtriCure (NSDQ:ATRC) shares got a modest bump today after revealing pre-market approval from the FDA for its Synergy radiofrequency ablation system for atrial fibrillation.

ATRC shares were up 2.1% to $10.86 as of about 1 p.m. today.

Health care spending hits historical low | MassDevice.com On Call

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Health care spending increased by 3.9 percent last year, the lowest growth in spending in the entire history of Medicare and Medicaid.

Last year’s rate beat out 2009’s record of 4 percent growth. Last year’s spending added up to 17.6 percent of the economy.

Bupp steps down as Neoprobe CEO | Personnel moves

Neoprobe Corp. (NYSE Amex:NEOP) is getting a new chief executive and, perhaps, a new board member.

The Dublin, Ohio-based cancer diagnostics firm announced that CEO David Bupp will be replaced by chief development officer Mark Pykett on April 15.
