BATESVILLE, Ind., September 8, 2011 — Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., (NYSE:HRC) today announced the approximately $20 million acquisition of Liko France, SAS, Item SA and Liko Care AG, the distribution companies for Hill-Rom’s Liko patient mobility products in France and Switzerland. Hill-Rom, the global leader in patient support solutions, expanded its patient mobility product offering with the 2008 acquisition of Liko, A.B., a leading provider of patient lift systems. Last year, Hill-Rom reorganized its regional operations to more directly serve its patients’ and customers’ needs. Today’s acquisition is another step in Hill-Rom’s strategy for international expansion, leveraging and increasing its direct channel presence, especially in key European markets.

Hill-Rom closes buyout of joint venture Encompass TSS
Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. (NYSE:HRC) acquired the minority interest of its Encompass TSS joint venture with Encompass Group, giving the company a 100 percent share of the subsidiary.
The two companies founded Encompass TSS, or Therapeutic Support Systems, approximately a year ago to run the distribution of medical bedding products that combined the companies’ technologies.
Electromed, Hill-Rom settle “SmartVest” trademark suit
Electromed Inc. (NSDQ:ELMD) and several subsidiaries of Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. (NYSE:HRC) settled a trademark infringement spat over the branding on their respective high-frequency chest wall oscillation vests.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
It’s not the first go-around between New Prague, Minn.-based Electromed and Hill-Rom over HFCWO vest branding. When Electromed introduced its MedPulse device, Hill-Rom sued in December 2000, alleging that the Electromed device infringed its trademark for "The Vest." That case was settled, also for undisclosed terms, in 2003.
