MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Medical device group purchasing giant Premier Inc. announced the launch of its PremierConnect Price Connect smartphone app, connecting healthcare providers with pricing on thousands of medical devices and supplies in real time.
The goal of aptitude LLC, the Amazon.com-style marketplace for medical device companies and hospitals, is to reduce costs while speeding up contracting in the healthcare supply chain for buyers and sellers of medical equipment.
Kinetic Concepts’ V.A.C. Ulta therapy and Prevena incision management system were awarded Novation’s "Innovative Technology" designation, putting the devices in an elite category within the group purchasing organization’s catalog.
Novation, which represents close to 100,000 healthcare providers, awarded the designations at its annual Innovative Technology Expo, where products were evaluated and reviewed by hospital member-led councils.
Aptitude LLC said it inked a deal with the Northeast Purchasing Coalition for online direct contracting for more than 100 hospitals.
Aptitude is an online marketplace aimed at streamlining the hospital purchasing process by connecting medical device suppliers with their counterparts in the hospital industry. The company is a spinout of Irving, Texas-based group purchasing organization Novation.
The deal calls for the Limerick, Pa.-based medical device company to provide its complete line of Arrow intra-aortic balloon catheters and pumps. The agreement is slated to begin Jan. 1, 2014.
