Veterans Dept. signs Calgary Scientific, Agilex for on-demand access to diagnostic images
The Dept. of Veterans affairs handed imaging contracts to Calgary Scientific and Agilex to boost its mobile and remote access to diagnostic images.
The terms of the contract were not announced, but Agilex called the deal "competitive."
Agilex plans to build on Calgary’s ResolutionMD enterprise image-viewer, giving clinicians around the country secure, on-demand access on desktop and mobile devices.
mHealth: Calgary Scientific lands FDA nod to expand mobile imaging diagnosis
Calgary Scientific won new FDA clearance for its ResolutionMD system, making medical images from more modalities available for mobile diagnosis.
The new FDA nod adds to existing clearances permitting diagnosis on the web as well as on iOS and Android devices. Calgary can now further market the ResolutionMD system for all of its imaging modalities, with the exception of mammography.

Calgary Scientific won 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its ResolutionMD app for Androids smartphones.
The app is designed to allow physicians to diagnose medical images on their Android phones.
Calgary won an FDA nod in 2011 for the iPhone- and iPad-compatible versions of the app.

Mela Sciences (NSDQ:MELA) announced an expanded 3-year manufacturing contract with long-time supplier Askion GmbH for production of the MelaFind devices.
MelaFind, the company’s flagship product, is a handheld, non-invasive melanoma detection and identification system designed to help a physician decide whether or not to biopsy a suspect patch of skin.
RIP Alex Barkas of Prosper Venture Partners | MassDevice.com On Call
MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Alex Barkas, a venture capitalist with Prosper Venture Partners, died unexpectedly Nov. 21. He was 64.
Barkas had been a managing director at Prospect since 1997. He served on the boards of many biotech companies during his career, including Complete Genomics (NSDQ:GNOM), Geron (NSDQ:GERN), Tercica, Amicus and Novacept.
Prospect posted a brief memorial to Barkas, whose cause of death was undetermined as of Nov. 23, according to Xconomy:

The ResolutionMD mobile app was built from existing ResolutionMD software, which recieved FDA clearance in 2006. The app already has the greenlight from Canada’s regulatory body, Health Canada and has a CE Mark for distribution in Europe.
