Jay Walker made his fortune in the world of high tech with internet plays such as Priceline.com, which he founded in 1998 and took public a year later, but the man once dubbed "An Edison of the New Age" by Forbes magazine sees the next big things coming from healthcare.
"What happened in the data processing world is coming to medicine," he told an audience of health care executives in New York this week. "There’s no question that the Facebooks of tomorrow are going to be in healthcare."

In a joint statement the American Heart Assn. and the European Society of Cardiology published a detailed "how-to" guide for cardiac patients and their doctors, offering recommendations of when and how a patient should resume sex.

The app, inspired by Australia’s Think F.A.S.T. stroke identification app, uses the acronym to simplify the steps a user can take to determine whether someone is having a stroke. The app provides information on symptoms, suggests steps the user can take to help identify a stroke and helps find nearby hospitals and connect with emergency services.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — The direct and indirect costs of treating patients with heart failure could reach $70 billion by 2030, more than doubling from the $31 billion in costs for 2012.
That would put every U.S. taxpayer on the hook for $244 per year as the number of patients suffering from heart failure climbs 46% to 8 million people in 2030, according to a report by the American Heart Assn.
