A familiar trio won bragging rights as the best places to work in medical device sales, according to a survey of medical sales reps by Medreps.com: Medtronic (NYSE:MDT), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) and Stryker (NYSE:SYK).
More than 1,200 Medreps.com members voted in the survey, naming the same 3 companies as last year’s survey.
Intuitive Surgical (NSDQ:ISRG) was named as best medium device/equipment maker and AccuVein won plaudits as the best place to work in the small device/equipment category.
More than half of respondents listed a strong product line as being their employer’s most important quality, with 30% naming commitment to R&D and 11% looking for brand recognition. Just 8% cared about their employer having strong financials, according to the survey.
The most important value for medical sales reps last year was competitive compensation (66%), closely followed by work-life balance (62%). A policy of promoting from within mattered to 29% of those surveyed, with on-the-job training cited by 15%, social responsibility by 7% and wellness programs by only 5%, Medreps.com reported.
Forty-two percent voted for their current employers and 72% said they were very or somewhat satisfied with their job. But nearly half – 47% – said they’re likely to leave their current employer this year.
