SmartHospital, a digital foundation, aims to connect devices, data and care teams across the hospital. Portage, Michigan–based Stryker says it delivers one intelligent, adaptive ecosystem for care.
The company’s launch comes in advance of the 2026 HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition. It said it marks a significant expansion of its digital offerings. Stryker continues to bolster its digital portfolio, including through acquisitions like its 2024 buy of AI-assisted virtual care company Care.ai and its 2022 acquisition of Vocera. CEO Kevin Lobo also spoke about the influence of AI at Stryker at AdvaMed’s The MedTech Conference last year.
(Jessica Mathieson, president of Stryker’s medical business, spoke about Stryker’s digital efforts on the latest DeviceTalks Weekly Podcast episode. Listen here.)
Stryker’s SmartHospital platform comes from its new Smart Care business. It established this unit to advance its commitment to supporting its customers’ digital transformations.
The medtech giant built its SmartHospital platform to address today’s healthcare challenges. It scales to support the unique needs of hospitals and health systems, providing relevant insights to inform clinical decisions and enhance workflow efficiency.
Key capabilities include a connected infrastructure that connects devices and data to support clinical and operational workflows across transport, treatment and recovery. It helps teams better coordinate patient care.
Voice-activated, hands-free communication devices like the Stryker Sync Badge also provide critical information and prioritized alarms. Engage, the company’s intelligent middleware engine, helps reduce communication silos as well. It filters and prioritizes alarms and notifications to keep staff informed across busy care settings.
SmartHospital also offers virtual nursing and virtual monitoring workflows to support bedside staff, streamlining administrative tasks. Ambient intelligence, offered through ambient sensors, computer vision and AI, help the care environment become more aware, adaptive and responsive, Stryker says.
