Stryker is launching a voluntary field action on certain units of its Lifepak 15 monitor/defibrillators.
The company is notifying customers of an issue that could cause the devices to fail to deliver a defibrillation shock after pressing the “shock” button on the keypad. The problem stems from oxidation that forms over time within the button.
Stryker is contacting customers that may have impacted devices to schedule a correction of the device and will replace affected keypads.
So far, the complaints associated with the device were detected prior to patient use, according to the company. A routine test of the device can help detect the issue.
Stryker said customers should continue to use the Lifepak 15 monitor/defibrillator according to the operating instructions until the correction can be made. Users should also perform daily checks from the operator’s checklist.
Customers are advised to contact Stryker as soon as they experience the issue at 1-800-787-9537 and select option 2.
