Layoffs at a Stryker (NYSE: SYK) plant in Florida continue as the company says it plans to eliminate hundreds more jobs.
The layoffs come as part of a program of workforce reductions at the facility located at 5300 Region Court, Lakeland, Florida, 33815. For now, the latest WARN notice lists another six positions eliminated. But Stryker expects this program to lead to the permanent layoff of approximately 500 employees, followed by the closure of the facility by Dec. 31, 2026.
In a letter issued under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, Stryker said it hopes to implement the layoff program “with the least possible disruption to our employees and the community.”

Stryker commenced layoffs on Dec. 31, 2021. To date, the company reports the elimination of approximately 220 positions. It anticipates eliminating the additional six positions by Nov. 30, 2024.
According to the letter, Stryker expects to eliminate another approximately 260 positions on a rolling basis by Dec. 31, 2026, the current anticipated closure date for the Lakeland plant. The company said its layoffs include no bumping rights and no affected employees are represented by a union.
In the letter, Stryker outlined the six positions eliminated in the latest installment of its layoff program. Two material handlers, one surgical sorting employee, one “assembler III,” one “production associate III” and one “production associate II” were all eliminated.
Stryker originally announced plans to close the Lakeland facility nearly three years ago. At that point, it expected to lay off approximately 523 employees and close the facility by Dec. 31, 2023.
