Stryker buys Canadian hospital bed maker CHG

Stryker, as expected, opened 2015 with an acquisition, just not the 1 most anticipated by observers.
The Kalamazoo, Mich.-based medical device giant is rumored to be near an offer for British rival Smith & Nephew. But today Stryker said it picked up privately held CHG Hospital Beds for an undisclosed amount. Read more
Tornier extends U.S. anti-trust waiting period on merger with Wright Medical

Wright Medical said its Dutch rival and soon-to-be merger partner Tornier effectively extended a mandated waiting period until nearly the end of the month.
Wright said Tornier voluntarily withdrew and then re-filed its Hart-Scott-Rodino filing with the Federal Trade Commission. Read more
Covidien shareholders approve Medtronic merger

Covidien said this morning that shareholders voted to approve its pending, $43 billion merger with Medtronic at a meeting in Ireland.
It’s a penultimate step in consummating the union, announced last summer, as Medtronic shareholders are also slated to meet today for a vote on the deal. Read more
Becton Dickinson, CareFusion settle lawsuits filed over merger

Becton Dickinson and CareFusion said yesterday that they agreed to settle a raft of lawsuits filed by shareholders seeking to block their pending, $12.2 billion merger.
CareFusion shareholders are slated for a Jan. 21 vote on the merger, which was announced in October 2014. Soon after that, 5 shareholders sued in a Delaware state court; 3 other lawsuits were filed in a California state court, according to a regulatory filing. Read more
Medtronic shareholders also OK Covidien deal

Medtronic said today that its shareholders followed Covidien’s in approving their $43 billion merger proposal, setting the stage for the deal to close in a few weeks.
Medtronic said shareholders owning roughly 75.2% of its stock voted to approve the mega-deal today in Minnesota, a few hours after a similar announcement from Covidien. Read more
