Stealthy Auris Surgical Robotics, which is led by Intuitive Surgical (NSDQ:ISRG) founder Dr. Frederic Moll, said it raised more than $34 million in an equity round.
Redwood City, Calif.-based Auris is developing a surgical robot for ophthalmological procedures. Although Auris did not reveal the names of the 20 backers who joined the $34.4 million round, it listed several venture capital investors as directors in a regulatory filing.
They include Ajay Royan of Mithril Capital Management, Robert Higgins of Highland Capital Partners, Peter Hébert of Lux Capital and Dr. Bijan Salehizadeh of the NaviMed Capital, according to the filing.
Moll is the serial entrepreneur behind a raft of robotic surgery companies including Intuitive, Hansen Medical (NSDQ:HNSN), Mako Surgical and Restoration Robotics.
In October 2013, Auris and Biolase (NSDQ:BIOL) inked a deal to collaborate on developing the cataract-removal ophthalmologic robot, using Biolase’s WaterLase cutting technology to create a prototype.
