California-based Soundhawk said it raised $5.7 million in support of its hearing aid technologies.
The start-up is still in its beginning stages after being in quiet development for several years. Soundhawk secured the new money from leading investors, including True Ventures.
The company, started by California Ear Institute founder Dr. Rodney Perkins, has set a goal to "bring enhanced hearing to people everywhere," according to a press release.
“Soundhawk was born out of a simple but fundamental market need: as our daily world gets noisier, everyone needs a smarter, better way to listen," CEO Michael Kisch said in prepared remarks. "Dr. Perkins’ experience developing life changing medical devices and new hearing science methods over the past forty years marries perfectly with today’s consumer technology market, and has produced a beautiful, yet simple experience for anyone looking to hear more clearly and participate in life more fully."
The funding is expected to go towards ongoing company development, including the launch of the 1st Soundhawk product, in the 1st half of 2014.
