SonoSim, GE Healthcare re-up ultrasound training deal

June 24, 2016 By Fink Densford

GE Healthcare, SonoSimUltrasound education focused SonoSim said this week it is extending a collaboration with GE Healthcare (NYSE:GE)  to cover ultrasound training and education for GE’s women’s health and urology divisions.

Through the extended collaboration, Sonosim will offer its SonoSim 365 for GE Healthcare to clients in the women’s health and urology fields who own qualifying ultrasound systems with the goal of accelerating adoption of bedside ultrasound.

“We are committed to offering clinicians and healthcare providers not only exceptional ultrasound technology, but also a comprehensive suite of education and training tools that helps to enable them to enhance their skills in the use of that technology, and ultimately provide better patient care. SonoSim’s innovative simulation platform allows clinicians to gain confidence in their scanning skillset by providing training on everything from the basics of scanning through to the navigation of complex, real-world, pathologic cases from actual patients,” GE women’s health ultrasound GM Tracy Bury said in a press release.

SonoSim’s Ultrasound Training Solution is a portable, virtual ultrasound training system which uses real patient cases to cover training on a broad spectrum of normal and pathologic conditions.

“OB-GYN ultrasound is a complex, operator-dependent modality, meaning the skills and outcome are dependent on the training of the operator performing the ultrasound exam. In my 25 years of practice, I’ve never come across an ultrasound training platform as comprehensive as SonoSim,” Dr. Alfred Abuhamad of the Eastern Virginia Medical School said in a prepared statement.

The SonoSim Ultrasound training solution is designed to include 60 modules so that customers can customize training sessions to cover a wide range of ultrasound topics, the company said.

“As early adopters of point-of-care ultrasonography, Obstetricians and Gynecologists can use SonoSim 365 for GE to improve their ultrasound proficiency while reducing skill decay. We are dedicated to helping save lives, reduce costs, and improve patient outcomes through the use of ultrasound. Our continued collaboration with GE Healthcare allows SonoSim to fulfill this core mission,” SonoSim biz dev veep Dr. Dan Katz said in prepared remarks.
