Smith & Nephew operates in 3 business units: orthopedics, endoscopy and advanced wound care. The orthopedics segment includes SNN’s R&D into biologics, as well as reconstruction, trauma and clinical therapy products. The endoscopy business makes products for minimally invasive surgeries to treat and repair soft tissue and articulating joints. The advanced wound care business offers products ranging from initial wound bed preparation to full wound closure. The company claims distribution channels in more than 90 countries. In May 2012 SNN acquired Kalypto Medical and in December 2012 acquired Healthpoint Biotherapeutics.
