British orthopedic giant Smith & Nephew (NYSE:SNN) added former Parliament member and conservative politician Baroness Virginia Bottomley of Nettlestone to its board of directors.
Bottomley served in the U.K.’s House of Commons from 1984 to 2005, after which she was raised to "peerage," a term of ranking for British nobility.
"Virginia’s outstanding talents have enabled her to forge a successful career across both the private and public sectors and I am delighted that we will now benefit from her wealth of experience and obvious enthusiasm for joining Smith & Nephew," board chairman Sir John Buchanan said in prepared remarks.

Asante Solutions shuffles the deck
Diabetes care company Asante Solutions named David Thrower its new CEO, replacing outgoing chief Phil Hopper who will remain on as a special advisor and board member.
Thrower was previously CEO of InSound Medical, a disruptive hearing aid maker which was later acquired by Sonova Holding AG (SIX:SOON).
In addition, the Sunnyvale, Calf.-based company appointed Eric Steuben its new vice president of operations. Read more
InVivo chief Reynolds enacts Rule 10b5-1 to sell stakes
InVivo Therapeutics (OTC:NVIV) CEO Frank Reynolds enacted Securities Exchange Act Rule 10b5-1 in order to sell some of his common stock "as part of his long-term strategy for individual asset diversification and liquidity."
Through a pre-arranged trading plan, Reynolds will sell up to 4 million of his 14.4 million shares of common stock.
NVIV shares were down 2.3% to $2.17 as of about 3:15 p.m. today. Read more
