CVS (NYSE:CVS) today announced plans to launch SmileDirectClub SmileShops within CVS pharmacy locations which will offer the orthodontic-focused device maker’s clear aligner systems and other products.
Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS said that both it and Nashville, Tenn.-based SmileDirectClub have already run a successful pilot of the stores, and that new SmileShops will launch at hundreds of CVS Pharmacy locations this year. The new shops will more than double SmileDirectClub’s existing physical footprint, the companies said.
CVS said that SmileShops have the potential to expand into more than a thousand locations over the next several years. SmileShops provide free 3D digital images of teeth, teeth whitening kits and information on clear aligner therapy, the companies said.
“CVS Health and SmileDirectClub are aligned in the mission to put the customer at the center of their care by providing easier access to more affordable, more convenient health solutions with proven outcomes. SmileShops at CVS Pharmacy support our dedication to enhancing the customer experience with innovative and convenient health and beauty solutions,” CVS Pharmacy prez Kevin Hourican said in a prepared statement.
“Our collaboration opens the door for millions of CVS Pharmacy customers to be one step closer to getting a smile that they love, and can afford. CVS Pharmacy understands that quality and convenience are what customers crave when it comes to their health, wellness, and beauty needs. We are excited to extend our footprint and access to straighter smiles with a customer-first organization,” SmileDirectClub co-founder Alex Fenkell said in a press release.
SmileDirectClub said it will also be added as an in-network option for Aetna Dental members this summer.
“Aetna is committed to making dental care easy and affordable, which is why we offer coverage for a wide range of Orthodontic solutions, in order to ensure that we’re meeting the needs of each patient. Our collaboration with SmileDirectClub is exciting because it will enhance and simplify the coverage experience for Aetna members that are candidates for their innovative, low-cost solution,” Aetna prez & CVS Health exec VP Karen Lynch said in a prepared release.
