At least 369 companies filed for initial public offerings last year, a 44% increase over 2013, and the medical device industry was no exception.
Thirty-one medtech companies decided to test the public markets last year, according to a MassDevice.com analysis, with 21 closing on a collective $1.34 billion. Read more
Insulet lowers guidance, shuffles executive deck

Insulet said that it’s shuffling the executive deck with a slate of hires connected to Hologic and lowered its guidance for the 4th quarter and 2014 overall.
Billerica, Mass.-based Insulet said a delay in shipments of its non-insulin drug delivery products means it now expects to report revenues of $71 million to $73 million, down from prior guidance of $76 million to $81 million. Full-year sales are pegged at $287 to $289 million, down from $292 to $297 million, according to a press release. Read more
Slow return for Philips CT plant takes its toll

Royal Philips said today that the slower-than-forecast return of an Ohio CT scanner plant will put a roughly $265 million hit on its 2014 results, sending share prices down in mid-morning trading.
The Dutch conglomerate said it’s resumed shipments of its Brilliance iCT device from the Cleveland plant, but said the production ramp-up during the 4th quarter last year was slower than expected. Philips shut the plant down early last year after the FDA said its manufacturing controls were inadequate. Read more
