
PointCare Technologies Inc. raised $1.8 million of a possible $3.5 million round, according to documents filed with the federal Securities & Exchange Commission.
The Marlborough, Mass.-based diagnostics maker develops a mobile point-of-care blood analyzer for people with HIV/AIDS in low-resource settings such as Nigeria, Senegal and Zambia.
PointCare raised a little more than half of the $3.5 million in funding it’s seeking, according to the filing. The company said it would use the funds for general working capital. Calls to the company’s Marlborough, Mass., headquarters were not returned.
In August, PointCare signed a distribution deal with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics in South Africa to distribute the product in the southern and eastern regions of Africa.
