Philips unveils spectral CT imaging platform in the interventional suite

Royal Philips (NSYE:PHG) today debuted its plan to bring its spectral CT imaging platform into a hybrid angio CT suite.

Amsterdam-based Philips aims to combine its Spectral CT 7500 system and its Azurion with FlexArm image-guided therapy system within a single interventional suite offering. The combination, according to the company, would give interventionalists immediate tableside access to key imaging modalities. They would be able to perform procedures requiring CT and angio guidance in the same room.

The company said in a news release that it is collaborating with Mayo Clinic and Baptist Health’s Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute to develop the first-of-its-kind imaging offering. The company is presenting the platform at the 2021 Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting in Chicago next week.

All necessary imaging modalities within the Spectral CT 7500 with Azurion platform are available directly at the patient table and fully controllable from the tableside work spot. Additionally, when not in use, each modality glides away from the table into a parking position to give the interventional team unrestricted access to the patient.

The company designed its always-on spectral CT technology to enable improved detection, delineation and quantification of lesions to provide better-informed planning for minimally invasive procedures and more precise interventions.

“With this innovation, we are taking a uniquely patient-centric approach, aimed at bringing the latest interventional imaging modalities to the patient table rather than moving the patient to the individual modalities,” Philips GM of Image-Guided Therapy Systems Karim Boussebaa said in the release. “We are excited to be co-creating the future of image-guided therapy with leading clinical partners by combining the best of our award-winning modalities into a single suite.”
