Technology giant Philips (NYSE:PHG) named a new North America CEO this week, promoting home health solutions chief Brent Shafer to replace Greg Sebasky, who retired this week.
Shafer will be responsible for overseeing operations for Philips’ 21,500 North America employees and 57 facilities across 26 states and 3 Canadian provinces. The region is focused on a product pipeline in healthcare, consumer lifestyle and lighting.
Shafer’s home health background will serve him well as he works closely with the North American healthcare unit, which develops products for both hospital and home settings, according to a press statement.
PHG shares gained a few points yesterday to close at $34.61, up 1.6% on the day.
AT&T names medtech vet Dr. Eric Topol its chief medical officer
Technology giant AT&T hired Dr. Eric Topol as its chief medical officer, managing duties for the company’s healthcare IT solutions while retaining his position as the Chief Academic Officer at Scripps Health.

Staar adds Conceptus vet Kathryn Tunstall to board
Staar Surgical (NSDQ:STAA) appointed to its surgical board of directors Kathryn Tunstall, currently the chairman and once the 1st president & CEO of Conceptus (NSDQ:CPTS) prior to its $1 billion acquisition last year by Bayer (PINK:BAYRY) .
Staar further announced that chairman of the board Don Bailey gave up his seat to Mark Logan in a "planned transition." Logan has been a board member since 2010 and served most recently as chairman of the compensation committee.

Guided Therapeutics (OTC:GTHP) last month named Gene Cartwright its new CEO and added him to the board of directors, replacing former CEO Mark Faupel who was moved to chief scientific officer.
The company also announced that Michael James is the new board chairman, replacing Ron Allen, who retired at the end of January.
