- CareFusion grabs ResMed CEO Gallahue
CareFusion Corp. (NYSE:CFN), a global, medical technology company, appointed Kieran Gallahue as chairman and CEO, succeeding David Schlotterbeck who previously announced plans to retire, effective Feb. 28. A seasoned medical-technology executive, Gallahue, 47, was president, CEO and director of ResMed (NYSE:RMD), a maker of medical equipment for treating, diagnosing and managing sleep-related respiratory disorders.
Gallahue resigned from his three positions at ResMed, effective Jan 28. The ResMed board appointed company founder and executive chairman Dr. Peter Farrell to serve as interim CEO and president. Dr. Farrell will also continue to serve as executive chairman of the board of directors. ResMed does not anticipate any material change in strategy or operations as a result of this management change, according to ResMed.
- NanoString Technologies names Dr. Wayne Cowens chief medical officer
NanoString Technologies Inc., a privately held life sciences company marketing a complete solution for detecting and counting large sets of target molecules in biological samples, today announced the appointment of Dr. J. Wayne Cowens as chief medical officer. An industry veteran and clinical oncologist, Dr. Cowens will drive the development of the company’s pipeline of molecular diagnostic tests for cancer.
- Roger Hungerford joins board of Access Scientific
Access Scientific Inc., makers of the PICC WAND and POWER WAND, announced the addition of Roger Hungerford to its board. Hungerford joins the organization as a result of his participation in the recent financing round at Access Scientific (ASI). Hungerford is CEO of Axiom, an early-stage investment company specializing in medical devices and services. He is also the founder and CEO of SIGMA International, which designs and manufactures smart infusion pumps for hospitals and professional care settings throughout the U.S.
- AB SCIEX appoints Rainer Blair as president
AB SCIEX, a global company in life science analytical technologies, today announced the appointment of Rainer Blair as the new president of AB SCIEX. Blair comes to AB SCIEX most recently from Videojet, where he served as its president for North America & Europe. He will be based in the company’s Framingham, Mass. facility. Blair brings extensive experience in senior leadership positions to his new role at AB SCIEX. He was formerly president and CEO for MAPEI Americas, a $2.3 billion global, diversified construction chemical corporation.
- Atherotech Diagnostics Lab taps Mize as VP of regulatory affairs
Patrick Mize, Ph.D., was appointed as vice president of regulatory affairs at Atherotech Diagnostics Lab. Mize comes to Atherotech with more than 30 years of experience in the chemical and medical diagnostics (IVD) industry. His expertise includes product development of immunoassays and coagulation assays, as well as design and synthesis of enzymatic substrates and inhibitors and fluorescent compounds.
