NxStage Medical Inc. (NSDQ:NXTM) expanded a supply deal with Renal Advantage Inc. to include an additional 43 dialysis centers RAI acquired from National Renal Alliance.
Lawrence, Mass.-based NxStage’s relationship with RAI dates back to March 2007, when the companies began a collaboration to boost the profile of home hemodialysis products. In October 2008 the pair inked a deal for NxStage to provide blood tubing sets to Brentwood, Tenn.-based RAI’s network of dialysis clinics. The original deal involved 45 clinics, according to RAI COO Dean Weiland.
The new agreement expands that arrangement to include 43 clinics RAI acquired when it bought National Renal Alliance on the last day of 2008. NxStage’s Medisystems division will supply its Streamline airless blood tubing sets and MasterGuard needles and other products to the RAI sites. NxStage acquired Medisystems in June 2007.
It’s only the latest supply deal for NxStage, which inked a three-year supply deal with Reliant Renal Care Inc. in September 2009 to provide its blood tubing sets and safety needles to Reliant’s network of 12 dialysis centers. In May 2009, NxStage signed a $40 million deal with Asahi Kasei Kuraray Medical to private-label its dialyzer under the Asahi name in return for debt financing and the supply of Asahi’s line of high-performance polysulfone hollow-fiber membranes.
Days later the company announced a re-up of its deal with B. Braun Medical to supply the Streamline tubing sets. And in mid-June last year, Medisystems agreed to provide Gambro Renal Products Inc. with ReadySet and Streamline tubing sets.
In late July, Medisystems struck again, this time extending a deal to provide Fenwal with the MasterGuard needle sets.
