NxStage Medical (NSDQ:NXTM) said its NxStage Kidney Care division opened its 1st dialysis center outside of St. Louis after winning Medicare certification from the Missouri Board of Health.
The 6,300-square-foot center, in Des Peres, Mo., aims to provide "patient-centered care by providing enhanced access to the significant clinical and quality of life benefits possible with home-based and more frequent dialysis," according to a press release.
Lawrence, Mass.-based NxStage makes the System 1 home hemodialysis system.
"At NxStage Kidney Care, we understand the need for more patient access to therapies beyond the thrice weekly in-center model," NxStage Kidney Care president Robert Brown said in prepared remarks. "By leveraging the innovative technology of the NxStage System 1, we’re working to expand patient access to the life-changing benefits of home therapy as well as to flexible in-center options at the frequency and duration that works best for the patient. Our care model is designed to allow patients to take control of their dialysis and to allow physicians the flexibility to prescribe what is truly best for their patients."
"My life’s work is providing dialysis patients with high quality care," added Dr. Pablo Dayer, medical director of NxStage Kidney Care St. Louis. "This means listening to the patient, discussing care options, and letting the patient decide what works best for him/her. At NxStage Kidney Care, we work with the patient’s physician and care team to develop the best therapy for each individual patient in terms of modality, location, frequency and duration. We are committed to expanding access to home and more frequent dialysis for prescribing physicians and their patients, when it is determined to be right for them, with the objective of improving clinical outcomes and helping our patients achieve a higher quality of life."
