NuVasive Inc. (NSDQ:NUVA) introduced a new implant to be used with its XLIF spinal fusion procedure in the U.S., the XLIF Decade plate.
The device is designed to provide surgeons with an option for a single-approach XLIF (eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion), NuVasive’s alternative to traditional spinal fusion procedures.
Designed with 4 points of fixation, the XLIF Decade is meant to facilitate faster XLIF procedures by reducing the number of steps required for the surgery. NuVasive said that the plate is designed to be used alongside its MaXcess IV retractor and CoRoent XL family of implants.
“The XLIF Decade Plate delivers on our mission to improve patient outcomes with innovation," chairman & CEO Alex Lukianov said in prepared remarks.
NuVasive said it plans to introduce the XLIF Decade at the North American Spine Society conference next week in New Orleans.
Last week NuVasive said it introduced its Precept spinal system into Japan. In September, the San Diego-based medical device company revealed a probe by the U.S. Health & Human Services Dept.’s Office of the Inspector General into its Medicare & Medicaid billing practices, prompting a class action lawsuit.
