A Minnesota state court set a trial date for Lyle “Ty” Hoffman, who’s accused of killing Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) executive Kelly Phillips last August.
Hoffman and Phillips had a romantic relationship and were partners in a Minneapolis bar. But the relationship ended and Hoffman, who was managing the bar, was fired and evicted from Phillips’ home in Minneapolis, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press reported. Hoffman, charged with 1 count of intentional 2nd-degree murder, pleaded not guilty, the newspaper reported.
Hoffman allegedly shot and killed Phillips August 11 at a gas station in Arden Hills, Minn. He then fled, leading to a weeks-long manhunt before his Sept. 11 capture. Hoffman is also suspected of robbing a bank August 30 to fund his getaway.
Phillips, a vice president and attorney for Boston Scientific, was set to be married to another man August 30; instead, friends and family held a memorial for him that day.
Hoffman’s trial is slated for Feb. 17, 2015, in Ramsey County District Court in St. Paul, the newspaper reported.
