The $43 billion mega-merger of Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) and Covidien (NYSE:COV) could close as early as this month now that there’s a date set for the deal’s final hurdle.
Mansfield, Mass.-based Covidien, which is domiciled in Ireland, said today after a hearing before the Irish High Court that the court is slated to meet Jan. 26 "to hear the company’s petition to sanction the scheme of arrangement."
That means the deal could close as soon as Jan. 29, provided the high court grants its assent, according to a regulatory filing.
Shareholders of both companies approved the merger last week.
