Exact Sciences Corp. (EXAS) president and CEO Kevin Conroy ruled out a run at the governor’s office in Wisconsin, according to a regulatory filing.
The chief of the Madison, Wis.-based colorectal cancer screening firm had been considering a run for the Badger State’s corner office in 2010, but decided against it after Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett threw his hat in the ring, according to the Madison Journal Sentinel.
Conroy, who told the newspaper that he’s backing Barrett, spent the last month talking to political and business leaders in Wisconsin about a potential run. Conroy moved Exact Sciences to Madison in June after landing a $1 million loan from Wisconsin.
The air out there seems to agree with the company; Exact Sciences swung from negative revenues to positive top-line numbers during the third quarter and narrowed its Q3 net loss.
The company posted sales of $1.3 million during the three months ended Sept. 30, compared with negative revenues of $663,000 during the same period last year. Exact Sciences pegged the reversal to a non-cash contribution from the $17.2 million IP deal it struck in January with Genzyme Corp.
Net losses narrowed to $1 million for the quarter, down nearly 35 percent compared with net losses of $3 million during the third quarter of 2008.
