Neuros Medical Inc. added a medical device industry veteran to its board of directors.
Scott Drees joined the board as an independent director. The Willoughby, Ohio, company is developing a neurostimulation device that uses a pacemaker-sized generator and an electrode to stimulate nerves to block pain from amputations, sometimes called stump pain, without the use of drugs.
Drees held executive positions at Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) and St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ), according to a statement from Neuros.
Earlier in the summer, Neuros received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to speed development of its neurostimulation device. The device is based on technology created by Kevin Kilgore and Dr. Niloy Bhadra of Case Western Reserve University’s Biomedical Engineering Department and MetroHealth Medical Center, both in Cleveland.
