Mendaera, Echonous partner on image-guided robotic intervention

October 8, 2024 By Sean Whooley

EchoNous MendaeraEchoNous announced today that it struck a commercial partnership with Mendaera to combine ultrasound and robotic technologies.

The companies aim to revolutionize the delivery of high-quality interventional care through their partnership. They seek to enable compatibility between EchoNous’ Kosmos ultrasound platform and Mendaera’s handheld robotic interventional platform.

Mendaera’s platform under development includes robotics, AI, real-time imaging and virtual connectivity. The company designed it for accessibility across specialties and sites, helping to meet the growing demand for needle-based interventions. Recently, Mendaera raised $73 million to further support its technology.

EchoNous designed Kosmos as a portable, AI-driven ultrasound device. It aims to bridge the gap between legacy handheld and cart-based systems with advanced imaging capabilities with cutting-edge AI.

Together, the companies believe they can augment skills and enable more providers to safely and effectively perform prevalent, critical, percutaneous procedures across specialties and sites of care.

Once commercialized, Mendaera plans to offer Kosmos as an imaging option to its robotic customers. This partnership mirrors a collaboration between Mendaera and Butterfly Network for point-of-care ultrasound announced last year.

EchoNous CEO Graham Cox says the collaboration “marks a pivotal moment” in the company’s mission.

“Mendaera is poised to improve hundreds of millions of patient encounters each year and provide a meaningful solution to meet today’s growing supply and demand challenges,” Cox said. “We are excited to be working with a company that shares our desire to elevate access to a higher standard of ultrasound-guided intervention.”

Josh DeFonzo, Mendaera co-founder and CEO, added: “The EchoNous technology is an ideal complement to the Mendaera platform, providing high-quality imaging to our customers as they seek to provide the best care to their patients.”
