Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT) is no longer interested in the three tote boxes of human heads that Arkansas officials seized last year, and the noggins are set to be cremated.
The heads were apprehended at Little Rock National Airport after an airline employee noticed them in shipping containers on their way to Medtronic’s facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Pulaski County, Ark., coroner seized the noggins to make sure the shipment wasn’t part of a black-market operation, he said.
A year later Medtronic no longer wants the specimens and coroner Gerone Hobbs says he plans to cremate them once he’s done cremating the other bodies in his office freezer, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The embalmed cranial specimens were shipped to Medtronic by research and education service company JLS Consulting Group in June 2010, to be used to help train neurosurgeons on ear, nose and throat procedures.
