Medtronic opens office in Vietnam

September 6, 2016 By Fink Densford

MedtronicMedtronic (NYSE:MDT) said yesterday it opened a new office in Vietnam to greater serve the region.

Fridley, Minn.-based Medtronic said it will “make important contributions” to fight cardiovascular diseases and cancer in the region, 2 of the highest contributors of non-communicable disease mortality in the region according to the World Health Organization.

“Globalization is a key strategy and growth driver for Medtronic. Our expansion in Vietnam solidifies our efforts to further support the development of healthcare in this region. Healthcare in Southeast Asia faces many challenges, and Vietnam, like other emerging markets in the region, faces high demand for healthcare but is challenged with infrastructure and clinical capacity constraints in serving the needs of the population. With the new office, we aim to bring our scale and breadth of resources to partner with like-minded stakeholders to impact more lives,” Medtronic southeast Asia veep Zenobia Walji said in a press release.

“Our growing presence in Vietnam demonstrates our long term commitment to become a strategic business partner. With a new office in Ho Chi Minh City, Medtronic can better deliver our valuable experience and respond more effectively and efficiently to the needs of local customers and patients to help improve the level of care. We will continue to invest in resources and talent, leverage our regional expertise and develop local partnerships to reach more patients, in more places and through more ways via strategic collaboration,” Medtronic Vietnam GM AnThuan Nguyen said in preapred remarks.

Earlier this month, Medtronic said the FDA approved its Enlite sensor for the iPro2 Professional continuous glucose monitor.

Medtronic said the Enlite device, a disposable sensor designed to be worn for 6 days, is 69% smaller than its previous sensor. The iPro2 Professional system is designed to track glucose levels every 5 minutes, 24 hours a day, for as long as 6 days to help doctors gauge the effectiveness of nutrition, medication and exercise programs.
