The VA awarded a three-year Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for GI Genius AI-powered endoscopy units. This results in almost 100 additional unit installations across VA medical centers nationwide.
This new contract adds to an initial VA contract agreed in 2022 that saw 115 GI Genius systems installed across U.S. VA locations. Medtronic says the latest expansion underscores its ability to deliver state-of-the-art care to veterans. It wants to provide gold-standard diagnostic accuracy in colorectal screenings for thousands who served.
Through a partnership with a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), this contract is a result of several years of groundwork and implementation with the VA. Medtronic says this prior history includes more than 360 GI Genius installations across more than 140 VA locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
GI Genius, a computer-aided polyp detection system powered by AI, has been available in the U.S. since 2021. It was designed to redefine GI screening by assisting gastroenterologists in performing colonoscopies. Medtronic rolled out next-generation hardware for the platform earlier this year.
“We’re truly honored to expand our work with the VA to bring AI innovation directly to more patients, especially to Veterans who have proudly served our Nation,” said Raj Thomas, VP and president of the Endoscopy business at Medtronic. “Colorectal cancer remains one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among Veterans, and this partnership is more than technology — it’s about setting a new benchmark in care with AI-driven precision to support earlier, more accurate diagnoses. This commitment advances our fight against colorectal cancer and reinforces Medtronic’s mission to deliver life-changing care to patients everywhere.”
