The push to unite military veterans with good jobs in the medical device industry is going online with a new portal designed to connect vets with career mentors from medtech.
The Medical Technology Veterans Program, launched in 2012 as a joint effort between Abiomed (NSDQ:ABMD) and medical device lobby AdvaMed, has since enlisted the help of more than 30 other medtech players and raised about $150,000.
Abiomed CEO Michael Minogue, a veteran himself, launched the initiative as a way for fellow vets to make inroads into medical device careers via "career bootcamps."
The program is hoping the new portal will harness the power of social networking to expand its network of veterans and medical device industry insiders, Minogue said in prepared remarks. And Minogue is hoping to expand the MTVP’s brick-and-mortar presence too, launching more state-based centers like the Massachusetts Medical Technology Veterans Program.
The 2nd annual MVP Bootcamp program is slated for the AdvaMed 2013 medtech conference this September in Washington.
