MassDevice.com looked at some of the most talked-about medical device companies, based on trends in U.S. Google searches for the last 30 days.
Medtech’s titans vied for their seats on the Top 5, shuffling the hierarchy everywhere but the top. Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) easily maintained its position at #1 with a slew of releases from conferences in the U.S and overseas, as well as some major developments in the long-running TAVI war with Edwards Lifesciences (NYSE:EW).
Covidien (NYSE:COV) generated a lot of internet chatter in May, taking the 2nd-place spot as subsidiary Given Imaging landed a victory with the FDA for its ingestible PillCam.
Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) jumped up to 3rd-place with a raft of news of its own, including the $415 million acquisition of Bayer AG’s interventional unit and several high-profile reports from Heart Rhythm 2014, the Heart Rhythm Society’s 35th Annual Scientific Sessions.
St. Jude Medical (NYSE:STJ) issued several high-profile reports of its own during the HRS conference, and generated further buzz with news of a new Justice Dept. probe. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) rejoined the Top 5 this month with news of its coming pipeline of 30 "major" medical device regulatory submissions through 2016.
