Age, gender influence PAD risk
Sutdies of more than 3.6 million people who underwent screening for cardiovascular disease shows that age and gender affect the prevalence of certain types of peripheral artery disease, with diabetes as a major risk factor even in patients without heart disease.
“These findings point to very important differences between women and men, and older and younger individuals, when it comes to PVD,” senior investigator Dr. Jeffrey Berger, of NYU Langone, said in prepared remarks. “In addition, we found that diabetes is a strong risk factor for developing PVD, which may be a significant finding for physicians treating diabetic patients.
