3. Covidien wins FDA nod for Fortrex PTA balloon catheter
Covidien said today that it won 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its Fortrex balloon catheter, which is designed both for maintaining arteriovenous access for hemodialysis and for treating peripheral artery disease.
Mansfield, Mass.-based Covidien said the Fortrex 0.035″ over-the-wire device it “the next-generation high pressure solution to maintain arteriovenous access” and “is also intended for use in the peripheral vascular system.” Read more
2. Convicted ex-ArthroCare CEO Baker wants new trial
Former ArthroCare CEO Michael Baker wants a new trial after being convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison for his part in a scheme estimated to have cost investors more than $750 million.
Baker was sentenced August 29 to 20 years and former ArthroCare CFO Michael Gluk drew 10 years from Judge Samuel Sparks of the U.S. District Court for Western Texas. Read more
1. HHS hits Covidien with subpoena over peripheral devices
Covidien revealed today in a regulatory filing that the U.S. Health & Human Services Dept. hit it with a subpoena for documents related to some of its devices for treating peripheral artery disease.
The Sept. 2 subpoena from the HHS inspector general’s office requested “documents relating to certain of our peripheral vascular products,” according to a regulatory filing. Read more
