3. Philips, MIT to collaborate on critical care data project
Royal Philips and the Mass. Institute of Technology are teaming up to give medical researchers better access to critical care data.
The medical technology titan said it agreed to give MIT researchers unprecedented access to anonymized data collected on more than 100,000 patients through Philips’ Hospital to Home eICU telehealth program. MIT’s Laboratory of Computational Physiology will serve as the project’s academic “hub,” overseeing access to the database. Read more
2. Intact Medical wins expanded clearance for breast biopsy device

Intact Medical said it nailed down expanded 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its eponymous breast biopsy system for preserving larger lesion samples up to 30mm in diameter.
Intact first gained the FDA’s sign-off to use its technology for biopsies and excision of benign lesions in 2001. In 2005, the FDA expanded indications for the device so it could be used to obtain tissue samples for biopsy through either their partial or complete removal. Read more
1. Mako’s Q4 turnaround has Stryker feeling confident
Stryker posted a stellar quarter of sales for the robotic surgical system it acquired in its $1.7 billion deal for Mako Surgical.
The Kalamazoo, Mich.-based orthopedic giant said this week that it placed 20 Mako systems into hospitals during the 3 months ended Dec. 31 – a 150% increase over Q3 and more than were sold during the previous 3 quarters combined. Read more
