3. Smith & Nephew CEO Bohuon: Big not always beautiful
The chief executive of Smith & Nephew, the medical device maker that has been the subject of persistent takeover rumors, yesterday said mergers designed to gain size do not change market share dynamics in the hip and knee replacement business.
“I am not a fan of the concept ‘big is beautiful,'” said Olivier Bohuon, speaking at an annual JP Morgan healthcare conference in San Francisco. Read more
2. Medtronic is the best place to work in medical sales
Three of the biggest names in medical devices topped the list of the best places to work in medtech sales, according to a MedReps survey of 1,400 medical sales professionals.
Medtronic ranked the best place to work across medtech, pharma and biotech, according to the job site’s survey. Stryker was next in line among the overall winners, followed by Johnson & Johnson. Read more
1. FTC wants more from Steris, Synergy on inversion merger
Steris said that it and the target of its $2 billion inversion merger, Synergy Health, received 2nd requests for information from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, potentially pushing the deal’s finish line further out.
Steris and Synergy announced last October their plans to merge in a deal that would see Steris reincorporate as a British company, lowering its effective tax rate from about 31.3% to 25% in a so-called tax inversion. Read more
